In the system, we categorize the raw materials by how they are used. For example, grains are used in fermentations, yeast is used as a fermentation support, etc.
The class breakdowns below should help you in adding your Raw materials correctly:
Fermentable - Items that have fermentable value. Consumed during the fermentation process. (Example: TTB Material Kinds: corn, sugar, rye, etc.)
Fermentation support - Items added to cooks/ferments that have no fermentable value, but are added as part of a cook. (Example: yeast & enzymes.)
Barrel - Wood packages/containers that are used to hold/age spirits. AKA Empty Barrel Stock. (Example: Char 4 New American Oak Barrel, Sherry Cask.)
Blending ingredient - Items that are added to spirits. This can be pre-distillation maceration materials, during distillation materials (ie. gin basket), or post-distillation materials. (Example: Juniper Berries, Extracts, Flavoring, Bitters, etc.)
Filtering - Materials used in the filtering of spirits. (Example: filter cartridges, pads, or other items consumed.)
Packaging - Items that are consumed during a bottling run. (Example: caps, cork, bottles, tamper seals, labels, boxes, partitions, tape, wax, shrink wrap.)
Consumable - Items that are consumed in the DSP that do not fall into any other category. (Example: Barrel bungs, wood alternatives.)
