Regulations in 27 CFR 19 restrict the movement of spirits between the three liquid accounts (Production, Storage and Processing). For an overview of the three liquid accounts, review this resource: The Three Liquid Accounts (Production, Storage and Processing): An Overview (Read Time: 5 mins)
In general, the flow of bulk liquid goes: Production » Storage » Processing.
You may not move spirits "backwards" through the liquid accounts (e.g. from Processing to Production or from Storage to Production) - unless the "backwards" movement was for the purpose of redistillation in Production. In other words, the only way you can get bulk spirit to move from Processing or Storage back into Production is by running it through your still.
The "Update" tank function in Whiskey Systems honors these requirements and will not allow you to perform a non-compliant transfer. "Update" will only allow you to move "forwards" through the three liquid accounts.
If you are actually redistilling spirits held in Storage or Processing, no "tank move" or "tank update" is required. Instead, when entering a new distillation, simply select the liquid account(s) where your tank(s) are located, and use these as your distillation inputs:
Using these tanks as Distillation Inputs will automatically remove the spirits from their current account and move them into the production account for redistillation.
